Phil and I watched a documentary the other day about the "No-Impact Man." To make a long story short, he, his wife, and his 2-year old daughter live in NYC and spent a year trying to make no impact on the environment around them. Now, I don't know that we will go so far as to use cloths instead of toilet paper, turn off all electricity, only purchase food that has been grown within a 250 mile radius, or stop driving our cars, but it provided food for thought. Here are a few examples of how we have lived low-impact in that last 24 hours.
- ate dinner by candlelight
- asked for paper instead of plastic at the grocery store
Obviously, we haven't done a whole lot to lessen the impact we have on the environment so far, but I guess the whole point is that we are thinking about it more. My new goals? I have to go grocery shopping this afternoon. I will be driving, but I am going to take cloth bags along with me so I don't need to ask for paper or plastic. Baby steps!
